This is (New) England

Great screenings at MassArt in Boston last night, and at RISD in Providence the night before. Both were packed, with smart audiences and good Q&A’s. I’m beginning to sound like a broken record here… but all the screenings so far have been awesome! I really felt like both the RISD and MassArt audiences “got” the film, and I had really good discussions afterwards (I mean after the Q&A, at a bar, where all the real discussions seem to happen…). It’s been interesting to see how different people see the film and how it affects them, and how their comments are making me think more about the reasons I made the film in the first place… more on that later.

Matthew Carter and Mike Parker joined me onstage after the MassArt screening for a Q&A, the highlight of which was Matthew’s definitive “Arial story”, even I learned a lot from that. Enjoyed a few pints at the Squealing Pig after the screening with the Font Bureau gang.

Thanks to Nicole and Rafael and everyone at RISD, George and everyone at EventWorks and MassArt. And thanks to Monotype Imaging for the MassArt refreshments.

Onward to Full Frame in Durham…

A sell out at MassArt

  1. hi!
I’m writting you because i’m really interested
    in the helvetica documentary.
I would like to know how can i have access to this
    movie.
Look,I live in Chile (south America); and in here is very difficult to see(and have access)this kind of documentaries; design is growing little by little in here… and I would be glad to know that this work will arrive soon.

thanks a lot for your atention
    nice work.!

  2. Hey Gary, are you trying to give every post the title of a punk song? In that case, I suggest ‘This is Boston not L.A.’, and ‘Banned in DC’…
    D.

  6. I hope you recorded the “Story of Arial” for inclusion as a DVD extra. :)

Speaking of that, how soon will this be in wider release or available on DVD? I live near Boston, but couldn’t make it to the sold-out-anyway show. Any chance there’ll be another soon?

    Thanks!
