We’ve got Spirit

Helvetica was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award this morning, in the Truer Than Fiction category. Lisa Kudrow actually pronounced my name correctly during the announcements. The award “is presented to an emerging director of non-fiction features who has not yet received significant attention.” I feel very honored, thanks so much to everyone at Film Independent!

  2. Very much deserved, this movie is simple, saturated with years of knowledge, and makes me feel good every time I watch it. Congrats!

  5. Congratulations! Just finished watching online at Netflix and thoroughly enjoyed it. As a self taught designer I really enjoyed the David Carson and Michael Place interviews. Great job!

  6. Kick ass! I will announce this at the Helvetica viewing party we’re having next month at work. The designers I’ve invited at work are skeptically optimistic. “A film about Helvetica?” Then the next sentence is usually always something like “Is the sequel Times.” Har de har har.

But when they find out that really there is such a film, they are unilaterally delighted. Gary, if you can make it to Newport Beach, you’re invited. Free pizza. And free skeptically optimistic designers.
